An overview

If you’re someone who travels not just to escape, but to observe—who notices the napkins, the people, the way a room is lit—you’re in the right place.

The Other HAFH is a newsletter for the discerning. It’s not about bucket lists or how to snag the best dinner reservations (although we could discuss that, too). It’s about why we travel, how it might change us and what the spaces we choose say about who we are.

I’d be wary of calling this a guidebook. It’s more so a lens. One that turns luxury travel into commentary and emotional honesty.

Each week (roughly), I send out a short dispatch. Sometimes, it’s an essay on the absurdity of ‘travelling like a local’. Other times, it’s a diary from somewhere I hopped over to for a weekend. Always, it’s something that aims to reframe how we consider travel and hospitality.

I write this from the in-between—between trips and between identities. And if that’s where you live too, even occasionally, then you’ll feel at home here.

What The Other HAFH is

This is a space for those who enjoy abstract thinking, and above all, for those who want to travel intently.

This is the more personal, perhaps more philosophical side of HAFH, where I’m less concerned with selling a destination, and more interested in what that destination stirs in us.

It’s a platform in which to reflect on taste, place, privilege, longing, timing, and all the things we carry when we travel, visible or not.

You’ll find posts on things like cultural projection in hospitality, travel as status or ritual, what the design of a hotel communicates, and the moments of identity, discomfort or self-recognition that arise when we’re far from home.

What The Other HAFH is not

This is not a space for detailed city guides or itineraries.

If you’re after curated hotel reviews and North American stays vetted through a design-led lens, you’ll find that over at HAFH. That’s the polished side. The directory. The one that tells you where to go.

This is the side that asks why you’re going in the first place.
